Polar Adventure Day - NORTHERLY ISLAND

The wintery weather came just in time for the Chicago Park District's polar adventure day at Northerly Island! On Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. you can see Siberian huskies and wolves, encounter birds of prey, make nature inspired crafts and explore the island on snow shoes...if there's snow. Admission is free!

Ugly Sweater Run - SOLDIER FIELD
It's holiday fun for a cause! Find your ugliest-best-favorite holiday sweater and head over to Soldier Field Saturday for the Ugly Sweater 5K Run! It steps off at 11:00 - proceeds benefit one warm coat.

CTA Holiday Train - BLUE LINE
You can ride the CTA Holiday Train on the Blue Line Saturday or photos only on the Pink Line.

PAWS Chicago Adoption Center - 1997 N. CLYBOURN
Paws Chicago hopes you can give one of these sweet dogs or cats their forever home during the holiday adopt-a-thon! They've expanded the hours this year from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the adoption center on North Clybourn!

Joffrey Ballet's The Nutcracker - AUDITORIUM THEATER
The Joffrey Ballet's new production of "The Nutcracker" by Tony Award-winning choreographer Christopher Wheeldon opens Saturday at the Auditorium Theatre. This magical story is told through the eyes of a child during Chicago's 1893 World's Fair! It runs through December 30.
Christmas Tree Parade - LONG GROVE
For a nostalgic holiday shopping experience, check out Long Grove's new Christmas Tree Parade in the historic downtown district. Enjoy free carriage rides, strolling carolers and pictures with Santa weekends through December 18.

Tony n' Tina's Wedding - RESURRECTION CHURCH, 3309 N. SEMINARY AVE.
On the theatre beat, take a break from the hectic holiday pace and be a part of the fun at Tony n' Tina's Wedding! The interactive ceremony starts at Resurrection Church, reception immediately following at Vinnie Black's Coliseum on Belmont.

Wonderland Express, Holiday Market - CHICAGO BOTANIC GARDEN
This is the perfect weekend to check out the Wonderland Express at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Stay warm and dry while marveling at the magical model trains, winding their way around miniature Chicago landmarks. Then, check out the Holiday Market Saturday and Sunday featuring seasonal produce, herbs, wreaths and more. The Wonderland Express runs through January 2.

Festival of Lights - PHILLIPS PARK, AURORA
It's the 10th anniversary for the Festival of Lights at Phillips Park in Aurora. Drive through one mile of spectacular lighted displays, including Santa's toy factory, old man winter and the new 20-foot tall dancing tree with singing reindeer! The Festival of Lights is open evenings through December 26.
If you're a fan of legos, you're going to love the lego train show at Cantigny Park in Wheaton. This is the 15th year for this popular show - hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

CTA Holiday Bus - No. 126 JACKSON
You can catch the CTA Holiday Bus Saturday on the No. 126 Jackson starting at 2 p.m. Photos with Santa will be at Jackson and Austin from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Ballet Legere's production of "The Nutcracker" is in performance at Dominican University in River Forest through Monday.

Apollo Chorus Of Chicago Messiah - HARRIS THEATER
And the holiday tradition continues, as the Apollo Chorus of Chicago presents Handel's "Messiah" Saturday night and Sunday at the Harris Theater. The Apollo Chorus' rendition of the Messiah has been performed every December since 1879 - Now that's a tradition!
