NEW YORK (WLS) -- "We made a mistake," World News anchor Diane Sawyer said in an apology after the show misidentified images in the aftermath of an Israeli airstrike on Tuesday.

"During an introduction to a story on the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians, I misidentified these powerful images," Sawyer said.

Sawyer showed the images again, saying the people in the photos are Palestinians in Gaza after an airstrike by Israeli. They were earlier misidentified as Israelis.

"We are truly sorry for the error," Sawyer said.
