Search area expands for missing Vallejo teen

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. -- The search area has widened for a missing Bay Area teenager, but the one person who would know where she is has been killed.

The Solano County sheriff says 19-year-old Fernando Castro kidnapped Pearl Pinson Wednesday morning. It's believed Castro took the 15-year-old in Vallejo. The car police believe was used in Pearl's abduction was captured on camera near the San Rafael Bridge on Thursday.

A witness told police Pearl was screaming Wednesday near a footbridge in Vallejo as she was grabbed by her hair and put into the car. The witness also heard a gunshot. Police say the two are acquaintances and that Pearl clearly didn't go willingly. Police say she was not in the car in the picture taken Thursday morning in Marin County.

The CHP said Castro led them on a chase into Santa Barbara County in Solvang. That's where Castro was killed in a shootout with police.

There's still no sign of Pearl. Her family in Vallejo is very worried and focused on finding her.

"We just want to know where she's at. We want to know where he left her at," said Pearl's sister Rose Pinson.

Police will be asking businesses for surveillance footage in Marin County today. The search is also expanding to Southern California and the FBI is now involved.
