2 killed in overnight Chicago shootings

CHICAGO (WLS) -- This weekend in Chicago began violently as two people are dead and at least 16 others wounded as a result of gun violence throughout the city.

The victims range in age from 15 to 54 and are mostly men, although one woman was wounded from incidents on the city's south and west sides, police said.

A 32-year-old man was shot in the head in the 5200-block of W. Quincy in the city's Austin neighborhood around 8:15 p.m. Friday. Police said at least two others were injured in the incident, which investigators say was a possible drive-by shooting, officials said.

Police said the other fatality involved a 27-year-old man who was shot as a result of a domestic dispute.

Another violent weekend comes as communities call for peace in the streets. Gov. Pat Quinn joined Father Michael Pfleger of St. Sabina Church and several marchers for a weekend anti-violence peace march on the city's south side near 79th and Racine. But meanwhile, shootings erupted around the city.

"I come out every Friday night so that the community sees there's a presence here and that we want the violence to stop and we want peace here and we care," said Lisa Ramsey, anti-violence marcher. "We're hopeful here but we still want to make sure things change and we do positive things for the young people here."

The shootings this weekend come after a violent weekend during the Fourth of July holiday when 13 people were killed and at least 58 others wounded.
