CHICAGO (WLS) -- Archbishop Blase Cupich toured the Cook County Jail Tuesday with Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart.

Cupich, who said it is important to serve the imprisoned, met with correctional officers and inmates. He also signed Bibles and wrote messages to prisoners.

Some called it the best day of their life.

"They appreciated a touch of humanity," Cupich said. "All of us do. And I have to say what I saw from the people who work in that particular area, they work hard to make sure the inmates are treated with respect."

This was the second time Archbishop Cupich has visited the jail.
