Robbers use customer as human shield, shoot security guard

HOUSTON -- A pair of gunmen used a woman as a human shield as they made their getaway during a robbery.

Police say the two armed robbers entered the Big City Food Store in the 11300 block of Homestead around 8:00pm last night. The men led the manager to the back of the store when they then encountered a security guard. The guard opened fire at the suspects inside of the store.

The two robbers then took a female customer hostage and used her as a human shield as they exited the store. The female then managed to run away after they got outside.

The security guard kept following and got into a physical altercation with the suspects. That security guard was then shot in the leg. He is expected to be okay.

Both suspects fled on foot. They are still on the loose.
