Multiple shot in Chicago Heights
Chicago Heights police are searching for a gunman who wounded several people Monday night.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. (WLS) -- Chicago Heights investigators said at least one gunman, possibly armed with an automatic weapon, opened fire on a group gathered on Concord Drive. Three people were wounded.

Latrisha Bell said her 23-year-old son, Daniel Washington, was playing dice with his two cousins just before 8:30 p.m. Monday when shots rang out in the 500-block of Concord Drive. She said she saw at least four men exit a vehicle and spray bullets down the block.

Bell said her son was shot twice in the leg and is recovering. His 23-year-old cousin is in serious condition with multiple bullet wounds and the other cousin, an 18-year old, was grazed in the head.

"It was a nice neighborhood, it was, but now I just don't know," Bell said. "I'm just worried about saving my kids and my grandkids."

The home of one of the victim's relatives was left riddled with bullets, including cars in the driveway. Police said the shooter or shooters used automatic weapons.

Neighbor Margaret Allen, who had children in her house when the gunfire broke out, described hearing at least 20 shots. At first, she thought they were fireworks.

"I'm not happy at all because bullets don't have names on them," Allen said. "That bullet could have hit anybody."

Investigators are interviewing witnesses in the case. No one is in custody.

In another shooting an hour later, three people were injured. One is in serious condition.

Authorities said the two shootings are linked and gang-related.
