Baby nearly taken off life support wakes up after months in coma

MARSEILLE, France -- A 1-year-old baby girl has opened her eyes after being in a coma for months. The news comes after her father fought doctors who wanted to end life-support for the child.

Marwa was put in a coma in September to protect her from a a virus that was threatening her whole body. When she didn't improve, doctors recommended that she be taken off life support.

Marwa's father, Mohammed Bouchenafa, refused and started and online petition to stop the discontinuation of life-support. A judge agreed and granted the little girl two more months of breathing assistance.

According to her parents, Marwa opened her eyes on November 22, and is rapidly recovering.
