CHICAGO (WLS) -- Two people are dead after their car crashed into a stopped semi, causing all outbound lanes to close on the Bishop Ford, police said.

The car was allegedly speeding through the construction zone near Martin Luther King Drive around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning when it rear-ended the stopped semi, police said. The semi was stopped as a result of overnight construction.

"It was unbelievable, makes you feel sick to your stomach," said DeMarco Suggs, a witness. "You feel bad for the families who lost their loved ones, it's just unbelievable to see something like that."

Crews brought in heavy equipment to remove the semi from on top of the car, as most of the vehicle was crushed from the weight of the semi, police said.

All outbound lanes of the Bishop Ford reopened around 7 a.m.

Two men who were in the car, ages 25 and 26, were killed in the crash, authorities said.

They were both pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Their names were withheld Sunday evening pending notification of their families.
