Body of baby girl found at Calif. disposal facility

HESPERIA, Calif. -- The body of a baby girl was found at a disposal and recycling facility in Hesperia Wednesday. Homicide detectives are investigating.

Authorities say the body was found on a conveyor belt at Advance Disposal Company in the 17100 block of Mesa Street at 8:05 a.m. Workers who were sorting trash made the gruesome discovery.

Pastor Matt Cordi of Calvary Chapel of the High Desert was asked by the plant's owner to meet with employees.

"We actually got to talk to the guys who had found the body, and they were really upset," Cordi said.

The coroner will determine if the baby was born alive and the cause of death.

Investigators believe the baby was from the area because the recycling plant services the High Desert communities. Advance Disposal collects in Hesperia, Oak Hills and the county area of Apple Valley. They collect from both businesses and residential areas.

The recycling plant was shut down during the investigation, with a sign outside directing customers to visit the Victorville facility. It was a year ago this month that a similar incident happened there. In that case the body of an infant girl was discovered.
