Boy, 13, charged in South Side shooting that injured 3 teens

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 13-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm in connection with the shooting of three teens in Chicago's Washington Heights neighborhood.

The male juvenile offender is accused of walking up to a group and opening fire, injuring two 14-year-old boys and a 17-year-old boy in the 9700-block of South Lowe Avenue just before 6 p.m. Monday.

Police said the 17-year-old boy was shot in the head and transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition. One 14-year-old boy suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and arm and taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in critical condition. The other 14-year-old boy was also taken to Little Company of Mary. He was shot in the leg and transported in stable condition.

The suspect faces three counts of attempted murder in the first degree and three counts of aggravated battery with a firearm.

No further details have been released.
