CHICAGO (WLS) -- Police are investigating a shooting that occurred along an off ramp from the Kennedy Expressway overnight in the city's Bucktown neighborhood.

The shooting occurred just after midnight Saturday on the Damen Avenue off ramp when police say someone opened fire into a van, hitting a 16-year-old boy in the arm.

Police say the driver, who was uninjured, made it to Fullerton and Western, where an ambulance responded. The boy was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

The shooting comes days after Monday's expressway shooting on the Dan Ryan, when someone opened fire on a tow truck.

This is the 28th shooting to occur this year along a Chicago expressway. State police have increased their overnight presence along expressways in response to the increase in shootings.

No other details have been released and police are continuing to investigate.
