Bystanders rescue woman after car drives into Mass. pond

ARLINGTON, Mass. -- Bystanders in Massachusetts raced into a pond to rescue a woman trapped in her sinking car on Friday.

"She was very, very scared and had taken in water...she just figured this was it. I saw it in her eyes," said Dan Frazier.

Frazier knew he only had moments to react. He and two others jumped in the water to save the woman trapped in her sinking car.

"I saw a woman in a car going down and someone had to help save her," Frazier said.

The first man out managed to open the back door but the car sank rapidly. It's 40 feet deep where the car was going down. At one point, they feared the worst.

On the video, one of the men can be heard saying, "I lost her." Just then, the 68-year-old woman emerged and that's when Frazier swam out to save her.

That woman's husband told WCVB she confused the gas and brake pedals, jumping a curb and plunging into the water.

He and his friend just happened to be riding by on their bikes at Spy Pond, so thankful they stopped and fearlessly went in to save her life.

"I just held her hand and prayed," Frazier said.

The woman was treated for mild hypothermia.
