A new campaign is aiming to educate Cook County residents about the proper disposal of unused medications.

Dozens of public and private organizations worked together to create the Cook County Meds Disposal Initiative.

It includes a data base of sites throughout the county where people can dispose of drugs and prevent their misuse.

"Kids get their hands on them, teenagers get their hands on them, people get those and they start selling them. They need to be removed. It's been clearly shown it is sort of the entry point for many of the people who get involved with this opioid epidemic," Cook Country Sheriff Tom Dart said.

The group unveiled a new website to help people find the most convenient drug collection sites.
