CHICAGO (WLS) -- Charles Esaw faces several charges after allegedly holding his family, including two young children, hostage inside a semi-truck on Chicago's Cicero Avenue.
Esaw is charged with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated domestic battery, aggravated fleeing and eluding, and unlawful restraint.
The situation began with a call to Bedford Park police from Esaw's wife. She told police her husband was holding her, their two children and two dogs inside a truck and would not let them out. When officers responded, Esaw allegedly drove toward them.
His wife got out, but Esaw allegedly drove the truck- with the children and dogs inside- down Cicero Avenue. The truck came to a stop at 43rd Street, prompting police to close several blocks of Cicero Avenue and the Midway Airport ramps to and from I-55. The children were released, and Esaw turned himself in without incident, officials said.
