Chicago firefighter injured battling South Side fire

A member of the Chicago Fire Department is rushed the hospital Saturday after getting injured battling a fire on the city's South Side.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A member of the Chicago Fire Department was rushed the hospital Saturday after getting injured battling a fire on the city's South Side.

The firefighter suffered heat-related injuries when fire erupted at home in the 500-block of West 31st Street in the Bridgeport neighborhood.

He was taken to Mercy Hospital and then transferred to Stroger Hospital for treatment.

The fire was quickly extinguished and there were no other injuries.
