Gas station clerk pushes cooler onto armed robber in Wicker Park

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A gas station clerk fought back against an armed robber in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood.

Surveillance video shows him pushing a large metal cooler full of beverages on top of the assailant last Thursday night at the Shell gas station in the 1900-block of W. Division.

The gunman still tried to extend his arm around that cooler to allegedly shoot store clerk Omar Breton. The 32-year-old clerk said he did it to have a chance at surviving the encounter.

The gunman got away.
