CHICAGO (WLS) -- Roughly 5,300 homes and businesses remain without power three days after severe storms hit the Chicago area, according to the latest numbers from ComEd.
Most of those customers are in the south suburbs. NIPSCO reports just under 14,000 customers are without power in northwest Indiana on Thursday.
At the height of the outages, 400,000 customers were without electricity. The company restored power to 98 percent of customers by 8:30 p.m. Thursday. ComEd said the damage from Monday's storms was the worst the company has seen since 2011.
Twelve hundred crews from 10 states are working to restore service. A ComEd spokesperson says they will work around the clock until everyone has power again.
Repairing the water damage in flooded homes and basements is another problem plaguing residents. ServiceMaster said it has had more than 400 calls from the Chicago area.
In south suburban Palos Hills, damage estimates range from $2,000-$60,000.
