CHICAGO (WLS) -- A person of interest is being questioned in the death of Shamiya Adams, according to Chicago police. The 11-year-old girl's funeral is scheduled for Saturday.

Shamiya was at a sleepover at a friend's house in the 3900-block of West Gladys Avenue on Friday when she was struck by a stray bullet that came through a window.

"I saw the hole in her head. And I ran out, and that's when I told my mama. And we was all panicking. We didn't know what to do," Rashunda Jones, 12, said.

Rashunda was sitting next to Shamiya as they and four other friends played campfire. She said she didn't hear a gunshot and remembers only seeing her friend slump over.

"We set down, like, to play campfire and that's when we were just talking. I turned around to have a conversation with her, and she just lay down," Rashunda said. "We didn't hear nothing. I just saw, like, stuff fly through, like smoke, like powder. But it was drywall."

Shamiya died the next day.

Police confirmed Wednesday that detectives are talking to a person of interest. Published reports indicate officers believe a fight may have led to the shooting from the street.

"It's just so crazy. She was only 11. And she's gone," Rashunda said.

An $8,000 reward is being offered for information leading an arrest in the case. Meanwhile, friends are raising money to help cover the girl's funeral.
