CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Chicago Public School security officer is charged with sexually abusing students and prosecutors say it's been going on for years.

Police say the incidents happened at Hubbard High School on the Southwest Side.

The investigation into the security guard appears to have begun at the beginning of the year, but it was not until Friday that he was arrested and charged.

Thirty-four-year-old Walter Wells now stands charged of two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and six counts felony aggravated battery in a public place.

In bond court Sunday, prosecutors said that Wells is accused of abusing female students in the hallways of West Town's Hubbard High School. Some of the alleged attacks happened over a period of several years.

Prosecutors said the incidents happened when Wells would hug the students in the hallways. A total of six victims have come forward so far, with some detailing abuse that dates back to 2010.

Some of the victims are said to have been as young as 14 years old when it began.

Police records say that five of the victims are not 17 years old, one of them is 18 years old.

In addition to being a security guard at Hubbard High, Wells is also listed on the web site as being the head coach for the boys' swimming team and the boys' water polo team.

Wells is currently being held at the Cook County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
