CPS teacher dies after suffering heart attack at Austin elementary school

CHICAGO (WLS) -- James Dasher, a Chicago Public Schools teacher, died after suffering a heart attack at Spencer Technology Academy.

The 58-year-old man collapsed at school Tuesday afternoon and died a short time later.

Autopsy results from the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said the cause of death was organic cardiovascular disease, natural death.

CPS released a statement saying a medical emergency took place at the school, located in the 200-block of North Lavergne Avenue in Chicago's Austin neighborhood.

Officials said the district extends condolences to Dasher's friends and family and that a crisis team was sent to Spencer to support students and staff.
