Daily Herald: Business owner fixes, rents homes for employees

CARPENTERSVILLE, Ill. (WLS) -- Tom Roeser is the owner of a $100 million business in Carpentersville with 500 employees. But years ago, he was concerned about where they could live comfortably and safely.

So he started buying houses, fixing them up and renting to workers. He's also invested tens of millions of dollars in adjacent east and West Dundee, where he's bought property, repaired it and sold it to spur on business and downtown redevelopment. He does it, he says, not to be a philanthropist, but to help his own business interests.
