CHICAGO (WLS) -- Many people remember the famous news photo from June 14, 1985, where a TWA pilot leans out the cockpit window of a TWA jet as a hijacker holds a gun to his head.

The dramatic photo captured a terrifying moment in history: when terrorists hijacked TWA flight 847 in Athens in an attempt to get Israel to release prisoners. Dozens of suburban residents were on board that flight, many returning home from trips to Israel organized through their Kane County churches.

Now, 30 years later, the Daily Herald is looking at how the hijacking colored the lives of the TWA hostages.
