Darien teen ditches prom to help homeless

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The average cost to go to prom this year was more than $1,100. One Chicago-area teen decided to skip the dance and use the money to help the homeless.

Ashley Yong started a GoFundMe campaign so others could contribute to her cause. She's already raised almost $6,000.

Yong graduated from Hinsdale South High School and lives in southwest suburban Darien.
