CHICAGO (WLS) -- A DePaul student was blocks away from campus when the university says he was robbed just before 9 p.m. Monday night in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.

The victim told authorities that he was approached by three males in the 1200-block of Webster Avenue wearing ski masks who demanded he throw his wallet on the ground and lie on his stomach.

He said they took $100 and a credit card. The university issued a public safety alert about the incident.

"I always look and see where it is and it always is really close to campus, which is worrying, but it's always at night time," said Hannah Callas, a student.

Even though the incident didn't happen on campus, DePaul protocol is to alert the university community when an incident happens near campus, as a safety precaution.

"The school sends out both text and email alerts to the entire student body," said Michael Light, a student.

The victim was not hurt. A spokesperson for the university says student safety is a priority, and students are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings as they move about the urban campus.

"I know that if anyone were to approach me, just give them what they're asking for and keep walking. It's not worth your life," Callas said.

Anyone who has information about the robbery is asked to call DePaul public safety or Chicago police.
