CHICAGO (WLS) -- Children spending the holiday in the hospital got to experience the joy of Easter.

The Easter Bunny had some special gifts for some extraordinary kids at La Rabida Children's Hospital in Chicago.

"There are rattles and fuzzy things for babies, high powered games for some of our teens, so they're really designed for each individual child," said Brenda Wolf, president and CEO, La Rabida Children's Hospital.

Samir Brown, 2, received bunny ears and lots of candy. The little boy was critically burned last month while at his home in Harvey. His mother said her then-fiancé bathed the little boy in scalding hot water.

"He has second and third-degree burns from the waist down," said Jessica Brown, his mother.

But thanks to the care at the hospital, he's beginning sit, walk and become a curious, talkative toddler again. He even tried out as an ABC7 reporter!

While it's no fun for these young patients and their families to be stuck in the hospital on a holiday, a special visit from a furry friend can make them forget about sickness and enjoy just being a kid.

A total of 26 Easter baskets were given out on Sunday, one for every child there.
