Evanston police officer hit by dump truck

An Evanston police officer was injured after being hit by a dump truck Saturday morning.

EVANSTON, Ill. (WLS) -- An Evanston police officer was injured after being hit by a truck Saturday morning, police said.

The officer was taking down stop signs due to a power outage at the intersection of Dodge Avenue and Emerson Street at about 9:43 a.m., police said. The officer had dropped the stop signs and was walking in the crosswalk when she was hit by the dump truck traveling east on Emerson Avenue.

The officer, a 19-year veteran was transported to Evanston Hospital and is in stable condition, police said.

The Northern Regional Major Crimes Task Force - Major Crash Assistance Team is investigating.
