HOUSTON -- Police in southwest Houston are searching for two male suspects involved in a violent attempted carjacking.

It was just after 2:00am when police say a family pulled over to let their dogs go to the bathroom near US 59 and W. Belfort. A pickup truck with four armed men then pulled up behind the family with guns drawn.

"The truck rammed into his truck. Four males with guns then jumped out and try to rob him. He backed up and tried to get away from them. As he was trying to get away from them, he ran into a telephone pole they then jumped out and ran on foot and continued to fire shots at him. As (the victim) was fleeing the area, one of the suspects was struck by his truck," said Lt. Larry Crowson of HPD.

Police say the injured suspect was taken to the hospital. A second suspect was apprehended a short time later.

Police say two other suspects, described only as Hispanic men and believed to be armed, fled into into a heavily wooded area near the scene.

The family was unharmed in the incident.
