CHICAGO (WLS) -- The father of a girl whose leg was broken by a falling light pole in the Hyde Park neighborhood has filed a lawsuit against the city of Chicago.

The 16-year-old Kenwood Academy student was walking Monday with two other girls in the 5200-block of South Lake Park when the pole fell on them.

City workers told ABC7 that the pole had rusted through.

The girl's father said the city should have repaired or replaced it.

The lawsuit is asking for $100,000 in damages.

The city has not responded to the lawsuit.
