CHICAGO (WLS) -- Friends have started a mission to "Support Sarah" after a Bucktown woman was seriously hurt in a hit-and-run crash.

Sarah Mallory, an animal lover who works at the Family Pet Hospital, was hurt in a hit-and-run crash while biking home from work Tuesday night.

She broke three vertebrae, had surgery on her neck and remains hospitalized. Her friends started a GoFundMe campaign to help raise $10,000 for her recovery.

"You can send out thoughts and prayers and make her feel appreciated and cared for, but I wanted to do more to try and help her," said one friend.

So far $8,000 have been raised. Police are still searching for the driver who hit Mallory.
