VIDEO: Girl, 16, killed while getting on school bus
16-year-old Minete Zeka was allegedly hit by an SUV driven by another teen.

BENSALEM, Pa. -- The teenage girl who was struck and killed by an SUV, allegedly driven by another teenager, has been identified.

16-year-old Minete Zeka was hit while trying to get on the school bus in Bensalem, Pa. on Wednesday morning.

"She was too young to get hurt like this," Zeka's friend, Danielle Medio, said through tears.

The crash happened around 7 a.m. as Zeka crossed Bensalem Boulevard at Bridgewater Road.

Police tell Action News that the 18-year-old driver ran through the red flashing lights and stop sign safety arm the bus had extended while the girl was crossing the street.

"The Bronco SUV vehicle... proceeded through the intersection, striking and dragging the child for some distance," said Fred Harran, the Bensalem Director of Public Safety.

The striking driver has been taken into custody. Police say the 18-year-old attends the Tech School.

That driver's name has not been released and charges have not yet been filed.

Images from Chopper 6 HD and the Action Cam showed the school bus and the SUV stopped in the street.

The SUV had gray and white coloring and has what appears to be a light bar on top.

As it turns out, Zeka may have saved Medio from a similar fate last year at the same intersection.

"When I was here and almost got hit, I didn't see that the car didn't stop and I walked out and she literally pulled me back by my jacket and said 'wait, don't go,'" Medio said.

"The car whizzed by," Medio continued, "and I wish I was there to help her this time when she was there to help me, and I wasn't."

We spoke with a number of parents in that neighborhood who say that intersection of particularly dangerous.

Bensalem Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact them at 215-633-3719.
