Girl calls 911 after home invasion
Two elderly people were taken to the hospital and an 11-year-old girl called 911 for help after a home invasion

HOUSTON -- A Houston couple is recovering after they were attacked and robbed in their own home. Their 11-year-old granddaughter, who was also in the house, called 911 for help.

Officers were called to Woodvine Drive near Amelia Road.

Investigators say someone broke into the home and stole a gun safe.

The thieves got away.

Reno, the homeowner and former Marine who survived the attack, said the home is now in "horrible" shape. "There's blood all over that house," he said. "The bedroom is total -- the bed, the sheets, the pillows and the floor, all over the walls. Everywhere in there, it's just horrible in there."

Investigators are searching for the four suspects. Houston police say the suspects were all male, had dark complexions and all wore dark clothing. Police believe this is an isolated incident and the victims may have known the suspects.

The 11-year-old girl who called 911 is being hailed a hero by neighbors and police.

Viridiana Uribe, who lives nearby, said, "She's a very smart girl."

HPD Officer Jack Fields, said, "The 11-year-old very very smart, young lady, she was able to contact police. We were able to get here in steadfast time."

Fields says the girl did everything right -- and may be the reason her grandparents are alive and well.

The couple who survived the attack is now recovering in Ben Taub Hospital.

Robert Uribe couldn't believe what happened next door. "You always hear about all these robberies taking place in Houston," he said. "To have one so close to you is more shocking."
