Girls rescued from icy Lake Michigan shoreline in Evanston

EVANSTON, Ill. (WLS) -- Two 11-year-old girls were rescued along the Lake Michigan shoreline in Evanston after a section of ice they were walking on gave way.

Firefighters reached the pair along Lighthouse Beach Saturday. Officials say one of the girls fell into the water but pulled herself back onto an ice shelf that had separated from the shore.

Evanston fire officials have issued a warning to residents to stay off melting shelf ice along the lake.
