A change in computer coding prevented 400 Illinois state troopers from getting their direct deposit paychecks Wednesday, the state comptroller's office said.

Instead, the computer system issued print paychecks that were either hand-delivered or sent to troopers Wednesday, said Rich Carter, a spokesman for the Illinois Comptroller's Office .

A change in a state appropriation line item triggered the coding glitch, he said.
