HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (WLS) -- A "soft lockdown" at Hoffman Estates High School has been lifted after an unattended package was found earlier Thursday in the school's stadium, police said.

The package was found around 10:30 a.m., prompting the immediate lockdown, police said. The school was serving as a host site for the IHSA girls state tennis tournament at the time of the incident, though school officials say participants and spectators were safely moved inside.

The Cook County Bomb Squad determined that the package and area were both safe, though police are continuing to investigate the package's origins.
