CHICAGO (WLS) -- With the holiday shopping season upon us, Illinois is cracking down on shoppers who illegally use disability parking at the mall.

Secretary of State Jesse White issued a warning that starting Friday, police will target people who illegally use disability placards or parking spots while they are shopping.

"Taking space from someone who is truly in need does not reflect what the holiday season is about. So remember, if you don't belong there, don't park there," White said.

Violators could have their driver's licenses revoked and could face fines up to $2,500.
