MOUNT EVEREST, Nepal (WLS) -- A Japanese climber will start his fifth solo attempt to climb Mount Everest on Saturday.

Nobukazu Kuriki lost nine fingers to frostbite during his last effort to climb the world's highest mountain.

This will be the first time a hiker has attempted to climb Everest since an earthquake in April triggered avalanches that killed 18 climbers and shut down Nepal's sherpa industry.

Kuriki will post updates on his journey to Facebook.
