Jogger attacked on Prairie Path in Wheaton

UNINCORPORATED WHEATON, Ill. (WLS) -- Authorities are warning people who use the Illinois Prairie Path of a man who tried to grab a female jogger Monday morning in the western suburbs.

The victim was jogging along the path near Pleasant Hill Road and Armbrust Avenue in unincorporated Wheaton when the man tried to grab her from behind around 6:20 a.m., the DuPage County Sheriff's Office said.

She told officers the suspect was a Caucasian or Asian man in his 30s with an athletic build and straight, black hair. She also said he was about 5 ft. 10 in. tall. He was wearing a light-colored tank top and black jogging pants, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies are expected to conduct extra patrols Monday. Authorities said people who live in the area or use the path should stay alert and call 911 if they see anything suspicious.

"She saw him on the path stretching," said Cpl. Frank Bibbiano, DuPage Co. Sheriff's Dept. "He grabbed her."

The victim's screams alerted neighbors, and she was able to fend off the would-be attacker. Officers flooded the area shortly after. But the suspect got away.

The Wheaton school district also sent an email to parents alerting them about the incident.
