BEND, Ore. (WLS) -- Kevin Mulert, 18, of Deerfield, Ill., was found alive after going missing in Lake County, Oregon, while taking part in a wilderness program.

Mulert was found at 10:30 a.m. Thursday by searchers on horseback about 1 miles southeast of the camp where he was reported missing on Wednesday at 4:30 a.m., according to Lake County Sheriff's Office.

"Searchers provided initial medical care and water as it appeared he was dehydrated," according to the Lake County sheriff.

He will be taken to an area hospital by National Guard helicopter for examination.

The camp is about six miles south of Frederick Butte, which is about 60 miles southeast of Bend. Hastings declined to name the wilderness program at the request of program officials.

He says Mulert was not wearing shoes, wasn't dressed for the weather and was unfamiliar with the remote area.
