Latino artists performing at Chicago Symphony Orchestra

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Chicago Symphony Orchestra will soon be filled with the rich sounds of three award winning Latino and Latina musicians.

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the CSO Latino Alliance are bringing a lineup of award winning artists to the stage just in time for Hispanic Heritage Month.

"One of the things about Symphony Center Presents is that we have a long history of presenting wonderful musical artists from around the world," James Fahey, director of programming of the Symphony Center Presets, said.

"The fantastic opportunity that in just a couple of months, in one month basically you can see all these multiple genre of music that a roots in Latin America is going to make everyone excited," Loida Rosario, co-president of the CSO Latino Alliance, said.

On October 2, it's Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan.

"Mariachi Vargas is the greatest mariachi band in the world. They bill themselves as that but it is actually very true. And this is the tenth visit of Mariachi Vargas to the symphony center stage, " Fahey said.

Then on October 16, it's Grammy award-winning Brazilian singer and songwriter Caetano Veloso with special guest Teresa Cristina.

"Caetano Veloso is a Brazilian legend and he's making his long awaited symphony center debut. He's an amazing vocalist, guitarist song writer and it's so important to the musical legacy and culture of Brazil," Fahey said.

Rounding out the end of the month is the Omara Portuondo 85 Tour on October 21.

"Omara is celebrating her 85th birthday with a tour. She was here before and she's the diva of the Buena Vista Social Club and we're thrilled that she's back on this tour," Fahey said.
