GRANT PARK, Ill. (WLS) -- An officer shot a bull that had attacked a man and was beginning to charge again, Grant Park Police Department officials said. The bull had gotten out of its pen at a nearby farm.

Three bulls got out of their pen around 8 p.m. Sunday at 9060 N 1800E Road. A man who was trying to move the animals out of the road was attacked by one of the bulls. He was taken by Grant Park Fire Department crews to a local hospital.

Grant Park police tried to keep the animals back while their owner was contacted at a nearby ranch, located across the state line in Indiana. At that time, the same bull that attacked earlier became agitated again.

"The bull was becoming increasingly aggressive scraping its hooves and mooing," an officer on the scene wrote in his report. "The bull was continually scraping its hooves at the ground while we continued to attempt to move the bull away from us and our vehicles... it became apparent the bull was looking to charge."

The officers shot the bull, and its owners were able to corral it and call a veterinarian. The animal will probably be put down, officials said.
