HAMMOND, Ind. -- An unidentified male was struck and killed by a train Saturday night in Hammond, Indiana.

The Lake County coroner's office was called about 10:15 p.m. to Willow Court and Hohman Avenue after a white male was found dead on the train tracks.

Hammond police Lt. Richard Hoyda said a train hit a pedestrian at that location, but could not immediately provide additional details.

The male, whose age is unknown, was pronounced dead at 10:55 p.m. A preliminary report indicates that he died from blunt force trauma, but the coroner's office did not rule on the manner of death.

Hoyda said CSX Transportation, which runs the railway, is investigating. A call to the company was not immediately returned Sunday evening.
