CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 65-year-old man was shot in the face in his bedroom overnight in Chicago's Belmont Terrace neighborhood.

Investigators said the shooting was not a random act of violence. Someone walked up to a home in the 8300-block of West Forest Preserve Avenue and fired shots around 2:50 a.m. Thursday, police said.

The victim was transported to Loyola University Medical Center in critical condition.

"I got up looked out the window, didn't see anything at first so I asked my wife, 'Did you hear anything?" she said, 'I thought I was dreaming!'" said Mike Davis, a neighbor. "So we come out the front, see police cars and realized it had to be gunshots."

The shots came through the back yard of the house. Nine bullet holes serve as evidence of the attack, including one bullet hole going right into the back bedroom.

Police said activities at the small-frame home have been a problem for some time

"It is a known problem house in the ward, we have been working closely with the police," said Ald. Nicholas Sposato, 36th Ward. "Many arrests so far, many violations from my office for various issues."

"People in and out of the house at all different times of the day, at night, but never talk with them," said David Brichacek, a neighbor. "Yeah this is a really quiet neighborhood, usually there is no problems around here, never have any problems like that."

Sposato says the victim was likely not who the shooter or shooters were looking for.

"I am guessing they didn't target the father, I'm guessing, from what I hear, it was probably a random shot into the house and dad got shot or something," Sposato said.

Area North detectives are continuing to investigate. No one is in custody.
