GENEVA, Ill. (WLS) -- Justin Patzer, 31, is charged with domestic battery and assault after allegedly bringing a knife to Delnor Community Hospital, which triggered a lockdown at the Geneva, Ill., hospital.

He was arrested in Hammond, Ind., on Tuesday night. On Wednesday, he refused extradition to Illinois during a bond hearing.

Patzer, of Campton Hills, was visiting his father when he threatened his brother-in-law and pulled out the knife, police said. Reports of a man armed with a knife running down the halls triggered the hospital lockdown around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

No one was injured, and Patzer fled in his vehicle. Two elementary schools were placed on soft lockdown while police searched for him. They were lifted a couple of hours later.

Patzer faces domestic battery and aggravated assault charges in connection with the hospital lockdown. Hours later, he was arrested after a tip led police to Hammond.

"Actually, it was a dispute over some property. Both subjects have a relative that has been admitted to the hospital. They were visiting the subject and there were other family members there. There was also an unrelated subject that was battered as the subject was leaving the hospital," Geneva Police Commander Julie Nash said.

The suspect has a long criminal history in Illinois. He was out on bond on assault charge from January 9 in Roselle, and arrested on January 14 in Saint Charles after allegedly violating an order of protection.
