CHICAGO (WLS) -- James J. Jenkins, 26, has been charged in connection with a shooting that critically injured a 3-year-old boy in West Garfield Park, officials said.

Through investigation, police learned that Jenkins was the owner of the handgun used in the accidental shooting of the boy Friday in the 4300-block of W. Madison Street in the city's West Side, officials said.

The boy was shot in the head after some children were playing and found the weapon, officials said.

A judge set bond at $500,000 Sunday for Jenkins, who faces a felony count of unlawful use of a weapon for possession of a firearm.
