Man charged in Round Lake gas station armed robbery

ROUND LAKE, Ill. (WLS) -- A 55-year-old man was charged in the armed robbery of a Marathon gas station in north suburban Round Lake.

Around 1:45 p.m. on March 4, police said a man walked into the gas station located at 1175 West Route 134, pulled out a black handgun and stole an unknown amount of money. He took off in a dark green Nissan Xterra.

Police said with the public's help, they identified the suspect as Wednell E. Wells, of Fox Lake, and took him into custody around 9 p.m. on March 4.

Wells was charged with armed robbery, aggravated robbery, theft and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, police said.

A Lake County judge set his bond at $250,000. He is due back in court at 1:30 p.m. on April 4.
