CHICAGO (WLS) -- Neven Woods, 23, was charged in connection with a police-involved shooting that occurred in the city's West Englewood neighborhood over Fourth of July weekend, officials said.

Officers were patrolling the area near the 7000-block of South Hermitage on July 5 when they observed a group of male subjects standing on a front porch drinking alcohol, police said. As the officers approached, a male offender allegedly fled on foot, police said.

During the pursuit, the offender allegedly reached for a gun in his waistband before fleeing into an alley and pointing his weapon at the officer, officials said. The officer then shot the offender.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
