Man shot by police after stabbing officer

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Police shot and critically wounded a man Thursday night on the city's Southwest Side.

Police say the man stabbed an officer through his protective vest in the 400-block of East Marquette in the Grand Crossing neighborhood. When the man charged a second time, the officer fired two shots.

The man is in Stroger Hospital in critical condition. The officer suffered minor injuries.
