CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 47-year-old man was shot early Saturday morning during an attempted carjacking in the West Loop, police said.

The carjacking near Kinzie and Halsted, but the suspected carjacker didn't get far.

It's the latest in a string of car thefts in the city over the last few weeks.

Police said a man was driving this blue sports car around 12:45 a.m. in the 400-block of North Halsted when a man jumped out of a van with a gun and tried to carjack the man behind the wheel.

The 47-year-old victim had a concealed carry license. When he showed his weapon, he was shot in the hand. He managed to drive away to Oak and State, where the victim was taken to the hospital.

Police are also alerting the public about several other carjackings like the one involving the girlfriend of Chicago bears' receiver Kevin White Thursday night.
