DOLTON, Ill. (WLS) -- A Chicago man has died after he was shot multiple times in south suburban Dolton around 12 a.m. Wednesday. A $1,000 reward is now being offered in the search for his killer.

Demetrius Southland, 21, was visiting the area and walking a dog when he was shot in the 14800-block of Kimbark, police said. Police found him unresponsive on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds.

Southland was transported to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, where he died Wednesday afternoon.

"I just want to make a plea to whoever done this. You took away someone from us that was very dear, has a whole lot of family - on both sides, his father's side and my side. And he's going to be truly missed by everyone," said Andrei Southland, victim's mother.

Police say Southland had no criminal record and was just visiting a friend in the neighborhood. It's the first homicide in Dolton in nearly two years.

Southland's mother said he leaves behind three siblings and was studying to become an auto mechanic.

The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force is investigating.
